The 2008 HP owls began the season in impressive fashion. Traveling to renew a rivalry with the Rams of South River. The game once a yearly battle had been suspended in recent years while Divisions within the conference were realigned.
The owls won a sloppy, but inspired battle at Denny Stadium, 12-6. Senior Running Back Bryan Fitzgerald ran for 121 yards and a score. The fast and punishing Owl Defense caused 5 turnovers. On the Owls side however the game was plagued with opening game jitters. The Owls committed 13 penalties for over 120 yards as well, making Coach Rich McGlynn's day a tough one.
