Donohue Memorial

Dear HPHS Class of 1987, Family & Friends, We are writing to give you an update on the Bill Donohue Memorial Fund. We are pleased to report that we have raised more than $3000. THANK YOU! With the funds, we have purchased permanent outdoor benches for the High School grounds. A dedication plaque memorializing our beloved principal will be affixed. We are in the process of planning a dedication ceremony and have worked with the school to identify Friday May 8, 2009 as the date for the event. We plan to organize school tours on that day as well so that you can see what Highland Park High School looks like 21 years later! If anyone is interested in helping to plan the event, please contact me (at this email) or Stephanie Field (sefield@verizon.net). Many thanks to Susan Berlin (Steven Isakoff's mother) for her herculean efforts on this project. Again, thank you to everyone who contributed and we look forward to seeing you in May. Policastro Honored

Joe Policastro, HPHS '59, was honored into the New Jersey High School Football Hall of Fame in a ceremony on Friday September 28th on Rutgers University Campus. Policastro a 1959 All American High School player, led the Owls to a State Title.
Joe continued on at Holy Cross in Worchester Mass, before returning home to coach his beloved Owls. Many of his contributions to the game we know today were from the sidelines. First under the guidance of Jay Dakleman, Policastro learned the x's and o's to go with his communication skills. Taken over the team in 1978, Poly guided several teams toward State titles in a new ever changing era with playoff games.
Poly, was instrumental in bringing "all-Star" games to the state and county, first with the North South game. These led to a border war with New York State, and have also led to the creation of many county games all outlets for graduating Seniors to show there wares for recruiters, and have sometimes one last opportunity to strap on the pads. Owls Hot Start -2008

Sorry for the delay. The 2008 version of the Owls are off to a hot start. After n opening win at So. River, the Road Warriors, playing without a home field as instillation of the Field Turf Continues, have reeled off victories at Cardinal McCarrick (formerly St. Mary's OS. Amboy) and @ Dunnellen.
The Owls have shown balance on offence, and a hard hitting defense, which has inforced its will upon its opponents to this point.

The Owls travel to Metuchen today, in hopes of keeping the Goal Post in the game between unbeatens. The Home Field is suppose to be completed by October 16th, but time will tell as delay have been numerous in this project

Owls Start off Year on the Right Foot

The 2008 HP owls began the season in impressive fashion. Traveling to renew a rivalry with the Rams of South River. The game once a yearly battle had been suspended in recent years while Divisions within the conference were realigned.

The owls won a sloppy, but inspired battle at Denny Stadium, 12-6. Senior Running Back Bryan Fitzgerald ran for 121 yards and a score. The fast and punishing Owl Defense caused 5 turnovers. On the Owls side however the game was plagued with opening game jitters. The Owls committed 13 penalties for over 120 yards as well, making Coach Rich McGlynn's day a tough one. Off Season Conditioning

Lots going on this off season. New Website to help you along. New Blog will replace the old email list. Hope to have updated info on the new Filed Turf which is to be installed, but has hit a number of political wranglings. We hope to publish some player profiles over the summer to let you get to know this years team. The site is still under construciton, but I propmise it will be an improvement over the past!
